Build a Confident Pre-Shot Routine

Many amateur golfers just step up to the ball and hit it straight away. By doing this you are rushing, causing simple errors that can be avoided with a simple pre-shot routine that will help you build a consistent swing. The professionals have complex golf swings that are built upon shot after shot of thinking the same thing on each type of shot and then doing it. In this post I’ll point out some key facts that you should remember every time you play. Road To Perdition dvd

Looking at the Back of the Shot

Before you set up at the shot, stand back and look at the direction you are going to be hitting the ball. You need to be aware of everything that is around you and taking the time to assess the wind, the hazards that are in front of you will help in your alignment and the final shot production.

Multiple Practice Swings that are the SAME! The Last Legion trailer

When I say multiple practice swings, I don’t mean 100 swings that are just general swings of the golf club. I mean the practice swings are near on perfect and will be like exactly when you hit the golf ball. You need to take 2 to 3 practice swings and make sure you take them smoothly and you are making sure you are doing everything you need to do.

Checking Your Shoulder Alignment and Feet need 5000 loan overnight

A common mistake that happens is when a person aligns, their feet and shoulders are not pointing in the same direction, you need to make sure your shoulders are square (pointing at the target and in line with your feet) so you don’t over compensate them both and end up pulling or pushing the golf ball.

Looking at the Target

Take several looks at the target makes you more aware of your position, the target and where you want to hit the ball. Make sure you take a look at the target a few seconds before you start to make your backswing. It’s essential that you then keep your head down through your shot and hit the golf ball solid.

Now it’s your turn, what do you do in your pre-shot routine that could help others?

If you’re unfit or don’t play golf often you will be hit in the face when it comes to playing a round a golf. It’s not easy and if you’re faced with conditions like high temperatures or freezing cold winds, the whole round can be a battering experience and will drain the energy right out of you. I have learnt from experience that certain steps will preserve your energy so you can perform better golf shots under pressure and also when you’re ending your round.

‘Eating is Essential’

Golfers often have a large fry up for their breakfast before they go out and then take on the idea that they will be fine for the rest of the round. This may be possible for some but it’s best to keep your energy levels up and top up your fuel tank (your gut) with a banana or two. This will subsidise the hunger and keep you going.

‘Slower Walking’

If you’re playing with adrenalin it can sometimes speed up your round. You will walk quicker with quicker movements and this will cause you to ache a bit quicker and lose energy. You should take it easy and make sure you are taking each shot at a time and not rushing. Don’t get me wrong 5 hours for a 2 ball on the PGA tour is unacceptably wrong but they take their time on their shots and hit good ones at that!

‘Lighter Golf Equipment’

At the start of your round, a golf bag may seem very light and you think you are capable of holding it strongly the whole way round. This view is sometimes shaded by the fact that you are full of energy. Don’t forget at the end you won’t be and you will feel the strain of your bag more. Try removing any clutter, extra golf balls that you probably won’t need, old drinks bottles, golf tools and extra clubs that you won’t (or can’t) have in your bag for the round.

That little bit of energy that you will save doing the three steps above will maybe contribute to you hitting that final shot that sees you shoot an extremely low score and you never know, win a competition?

We all get angry, we can’t help it. In golf you have to learn to hide it and control it every time it happens. It can be a frustrating sport and there are many shots that will lead to you getting annoyed with yourself or things that are going on around you. Let it be known that Tiger Woods does have a very angry streak sometimes and we have seen that on the television, but he does have a 30-second rule with caddy Steve Williams. Tiger Woods is allowed 30 seconds to “get angry” with himself inside of him but after those 30 seconds he has to move on to the next shot and totally forget about the previous one. Here are some tips for cooling down on the course.

Do NOT throw your Golf Clubs

This is probably one of the worst things you can do in golf and throwing your golf disrespects the game, your partners you are playing with, the golf course you are playing on and most of all yourself. Throwing your golf clubs is blowing your top and not caring about anything and will instantly lead to worst shots and even worse, broken golf clubs that cost a lot of money!

Deep Breaths

Count to 10, breathe deep breaths to relax your body and get more oxygen flowing around your blood. Breathing fast and hard makes you play quicker and thus rushing your golf game which makes you make silly mistakes. Look in to the sky, look around you and clear your mind of any unwanted negative thoughts and the shot that has just happened.

Positive Thoughts

What have you done in this situation before? Think about your positive shots that you have hit and play positive golfing thoughts through your head. This may sound silly, but when I am playing golf, I attempt to become a professional golfer within myself and replay the amazing shots that I have seen the professionals do on the television.

Golfers are driven by determination to be the best they can be, hit the shot when demanded and strive to win every time they are competing, be it against friends or in a PGA event. You need to not let set backs get down and beat through them to be better the next time it happens. You need to be determined on your next shot to do the best you can, letting previous shots and the momentum of your round affect your game will lead to further penalties and overall a worse golf score.

What do you do to stop yourself getting angry in your golf game? Think about it.
